Passover brings families together to reflect and celebrate their heritage, and the Seder table plays a central role in this tradition. One of its most important symbols is the Seder plate, which holds various traditional foods essential to the holiday. EL AL, Israel's national airline, embarked on a special project to create stunning custom Seder plates that combine the spirit of Passover with innovative design. This endeavor has proven to be a remarkable journey filled with skill, creativity, and cultural significance.

The Vision Behind the Project

EL AL aimed to offer something truly unique to its premium clients: a beautifully designed Seder plate that reflects the airline's new brand identity. Inspired by the iconic shape of a passenger's plane window, this concept aligns perfectly with the themes of the holiday and the airline's commitment to providing outstanding travel experiences. This connection enhances both the personal and cultural meanings surrounding the Seder table.

Creating the Design

The journey began with transforming EL AL’s branding concept into a product. El Al's marketing team and graphic designers brainstormed how to incorporate the airplane window shape while retaining the essence of a Seder plate. They envisioned a piece that was not just functional but also artistic, an item that encapsulated the values of Passover and EL AL's brand ethos.

At Yahalomis, we have designed a ceramic plate model, inspired by the iconic window shape. We had to make sure the plate is not only beautiful, and resembles the window in order to get the feeling El AL wanted, it should also be a high quality ceramic piece that should last for years to come.

Crafting the Molds

With the design finalized, the next step involved creating plaster molds. This phase required great attention to detail. Each plaster mold needed to produce a great quantity of plates out of it, allowing flawless reproduction of the original concept.

The Ceramic Process

Once the molds were ready, we have casted the ceramic material into them. This phase required multiple kiln firings at high temperatures. These firings ensured that each Seder plate was sturdy and perfectly finished. In some cases, the firing process was repeated multiple times to achieve the desired glaze and texture. The commitment to quality was unwavering, ensuring that each plate would last for many Passovers to come.

A Two-Month Journey

This project took two months, during which hundreds of ceramic pieces were crafted. The experience was filled with excitement and challenges, with our commitment to excellence shining through. As each plate took shape, the vision turned into reality, culminating in a stunning narrative of creativity and heritage. Each plate symbolizes EL AL’s dedication to quality and the significance of Passover, making them so meaningful.

The Final Result

The final product is beautiful. Each Seder plate not only represents the artistic vision inspired by ELAL, but also serves as a meaningful gift for its premium clients. The combination of elegant design and deep cultural respect resonates with the essence of Passover, creating pieces that families will cherish for generations.

Handcrafted in Israel

All pieces are handcrafted in Israel. This commitment to craftsmanship, cherished by many, adds an extra layer of connection for ELAL and its clients. By utilizing local materials and skilled artisans, the Seder plates become powerful symbols of pride and appreciation for the land and its culture.
